Plastic bags are made from different materials, but they are mainly made from petroleum-based polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) resins along with a number of other chemical additives.
Polyethylene plastic used to produce plastic bags usually comes in two types
- Low Density Polyethylene-LDPE
- High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
Plastic bags have characteristics such as
HDPE is often used to produce plastic bags with a high degree of transparency, medium surface gloss, poor flexibility, certain hardness, to be folded, creating a clear rustling sound when rubbed. (so often called foam bags). Common HDPE foam bags are garbage bags, plastic shopping bags, supermarket bags and small shops. ( see more: HDPE Drum Regrind )
Plastic bags made of LDPE film have transparency, smooth surface, more glossy than HDPE foam bags. Thanks to the greater toughness and smoothness, the production cost is higher than that of HDPE bags, but the quality of plastic bags will be better. Common LDPE bags are large-sized PE bags, used to hold goods of relative weight, often printed product advertising, logo printing, branding for businesses. ( see more: LDPE Agriculture Film )
Plastic bags made from PP have higher mechanical strength, are quite hard, so not flexible, difficult to stretch along like HDPE or LDPE. In particular, PP bags have a smooth, high surface gloss, better mechanical strength. In addition, PP materials are resistant to air and water permeability, so they are often used as food bags, preserving goods, or pallets for wrapping goods - food.( see more: LDPE bales plastic scrap )
